About the Role:

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Manager to join a registered children’s home in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. The home provides a nurturing, stable, and structured environment for looked-after children, including those with emotional, behavioural, and complex needs.

As Assistant Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to support the day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring children receive high-quality, person-centred care that helps them grow and thrive as they move toward independence.

The Role:

As Assistant Manager, you will take an active leadership role within the team, helping ensure the smooth and effective running of the home. Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Registered Manager with the day-to-day management of the home, promoting a positive and safe environment for children.

Leading and motivating care staff to deliver outstanding support, in line with individual care plans and the organisation’s ethos.

Providing direct, hands-on care to children, helping them manage behaviours and develop essential life skills.

Supervising staff, conducting inductions, appraisals, and ongoing performance reviews.

Supporting staff training and development to ensure team members are confident and competent in their roles.

Ensuring all safeguarding procedures are followed and that the welfare of each child remains paramount.

Maintaining effective communication with families, professionals, and external stakeholders.

Supporting compliance with all relevant regulations, including Ofsted standards and the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children and young people in a residential care setting.

At least 1 year of experience in a senior, team leader, or managerial role.

A Level 3 Diploma/NVQ in Health and Social Care – Children and Young People (or equivalent).

A solid understanding of safeguarding and children’s residential care regulations.

A full UK driving licence and willingness to obtain business insurance.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

A commitment to promoting the wellbeing and development of every child in your care.
