Manx Care is the Isle of Man’s integrated health and social care provider, established in April 2021 as an arm’s-length body of the Isle of Man Government to focus on delivering high-quality care for the island’s population.
They are responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of services for people of all ages across the Island. Within this, Children’s Services play a vital role in supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of children, young people and their families.
In the children’s space, Manx Care provides and coordinates a broad spectrum of services including universal health visiting and school-based support, child protection and safeguarding, family assessment and intervention, and targeted therapeutic services. The organisation works collaboratively with partners (such as education, police, and community organisations) to support early help, prevent harm, and intervene where children are at risk, prioritising early intervention, resilience building, and family-centred practice.
This is an exciting role on the beautiful island of Isle of Man, where you will be working as part of a team of five Group Managers, reporting to the Assistant Director.
Duties to include:
- To provide leadership, supervision and professional support to the Managers and Social Workers of the Care Management Service, and to the Team Leader and Family Support Workers in the Supporting Families Team;
- To ensure through the managers reporting to the post, that there is an effective and efficient distribution of work between individuals in line with agreed Policy and practice
- To be accountable for all budgets applicable to the service areas, exercising strong budgetary control and contributing to the annual planning cycle
- Ensure that work completed by staff meets evidence based practice, meeting high professional standards;
- To be jointly responsible for a performance management regime which is based on the regular scrutiny of relevant service data and information, the use of audits of casework and the results of any internal and external inspections and performance reviews.
- To take responsibility for responding to and acting upon any issues arising through team meetings, reflective supervision or the Appraisal process
- The ensure that Risk Management is embedded within the work of the service area
- Be accountable for the recruitment and retention of staff in the service area, including contracts, managing sickness absence, leave arrangements, disciplinary matters and responsibility for the health and safety of the service area
- To take accountability via the Managers for overall resource capacity in the group
- To take accountability for service improvement, taking appropriate actions to rectify any deficiencies and to ensure continuous service development
- To promote and lead the professional development of the Services, ensuring that staff have access to resources which enable them to learn and develop evidence-based practice to inform their work
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the Social Care Business Plan
- To chair multi-disciplinary and multi-agency discussions when the skills and expertise of the post-holder is needed
- To build and maintain partnership arrangements with other agencies, and Third Sector Organisations
- To contribute to the out of hours duty system by taking place on the rota system and any other duties required. (One in six weeks on call)
Essential criteria:
- Must be willing to relocate to the Isle of Man (relocation package and support available)
- Degree or equivalent in Social Work
- Registration with Social Work England
- Five years management experience at Team Manager level and above
- Proven track record of development of policy and practice in relation to childcare
- Extensive knowledge of the legislation in relation to children
- A proven record track record of using effective mechanisms to recruit and retain staff
- Functional experience of Budget Management
- Working Knowledge of IOM/UK Legislative framework
- Excellent interpersonal skills
