The Role: Interim Head of SEND 

We are looking for a dynamic Head of SEND who can drive forward our plans for SEND across the local authority, working collaboratively with partners across health, care, the voluntary sector and parents/carers and children and young people. You will ensure a high profile across partners in education, health and care and ensure strong communication and engagement with parents/carers and children and young people.

Our vision is to ensure children and young people aged 0-25 years are identified at the earliest stage and receive the right support to maximise their potential and achievements. You will ensure the local area is aspirational for children and young people with SEND and that lived experiences inform service development on an ongoing basis.

You will lead and manage a team of SEND Casework Managers ensuring that quality and practice is of high standard and case work is relational and child centred.

You will work closely with associated teams across health and the local authority to ensure needs are identified early and appropriate provision is in place. You will contribute to sufficiency planning of services and education placements and preparation for adulthood priorities across the local areas.

This position offers a unique leadership role that will allow you to continue to develop and transform services based on feedback from all partners.

This role is hybrid with 2/3 days per week in the office. 

About You: 

A successful track record of experience as a senior manager in a service for
children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities

Experience of successfully delivering a Council's statutory SEND function 

Experience of successfully managing and leading staff from different

Experience of partnership working with a wide range of stakeholders from
the statutory, private and voluntary sector including education providers
and health commissioners and providers

Experience of designing and implementing innovative change and transformation which will deliver legislative requirements and improve services

Experience of involving the community specifically parents/ families,
children and young people and other stakeholders in service design and

Significant experience in preparation, management and effective control of
large complex budgets (income & expenditure) together with evidence of a
commercial based approach to delivering quality value for money services

Experience of effective working with elected Members, central government
and government agencies

People management and leadership experience

Experience of change management in a SEND context

What's On Offer: A rate of £600 – £650 per day on an initial 3 month contract.
