The Role: Interim Principal Educational Psychologist

About You: 

The Principal Educational Psychologist leads and manages a team of educational psychologists, providing expert advice and psychological support to schools, educational institutions, and other organizations. They are responsible for delivering high-level psychological services aimed at improving the learning outcomes, emotional well-being, and development of children and young people. The role combines leadership, strategic planning, and direct clinical work with children and families.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

Lead and supervise a team of educational psychologists.
Provide professional guidance, mentoring, and support to team members.
Ensure the team’s services meet professional standards and local or national policies.
Develop, implement, and review educational psychology service strategies.
Oversee case management and ensure effective delivery of psychological interventions.

Consultation & Collaboration:

Work closely with schools, teachers, and other education professionals to identify and address psychological issues affecting students.
Offer expert advice on behavioral, learning, and developmental challenges.
Lead multi-disciplinary teams to develop intervention strategies and plans for students.
Collaborate with parents, carers, and social care professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student welfare.

Assessment & Intervention:

Conduct psychological assessments to identify cognitive, emotional, and social development needs of children and young people.
Provide individual or group interventions for students requiring additional support.
Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and other support strategies for students with special educational needs (SEN).

Training & Professional Development:

Provide training and workshops to school staff, other education professionals, and parents on topics such as mental health, child development, and inclusive education practices.
Support the professional development of educational psychologists within the team.

Research & Evaluation:

Conduct and contribute to research on educational psychology, ensuring evidence-based practices are used.
Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and services provided, using data to inform improvements.

Policy & Strategy Development:

Contribute to the development of local or regional educational policies relating to mental health, inclusion, and special educational needs.
Stay informed about national policies, research, and best practices in educational psychology.

Safeguarding:

Ensure that all psychological practices comply with safeguarding regulations and ensure the welfare of children and young people is prioritized.

Skills & Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

A recognized doctoral or master’s degree in Educational Psychology.
Chartered Psychologist status (e.g., with the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Experience:

Extensive experience in educational psychology, including leadership and team management.
Proven experience in working with children and young people with a range of educational, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Experience in developing and delivering training and workshops.

Skills:

Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
High-level knowledge of psychological assessment tools and intervention strategies.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data.
Knowledge of current educational policies and legislation.

What’s On Offer: A rate of £650 – £700 per day, inside IR35, on an initial 3 month contract, remote working.
