The Role: Interim Service Manager – Children and Young People's Disability Service
About You:
To lead and manage the Children and Young People’s Disability Service, ensuring high-quality, person-centred services that safeguard and promote the well-being of children and young people with disabilities.
The post holder will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure compliance with statutory duties, best practice, and continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day management and strategic oversight of the Children and Young People’s Disability Service, including social work teams, short breaks provision, and direct support services.
Ensure effective safeguarding practice and high standards of service delivery across the team.
Manage budgets effectively, ensuring best use of resources and value for money.
Oversee assessments, care planning, reviews, and case management in line with statutory responsibilities under the Children Act 1989/2004, SEND Code of Practice, and other relevant legislation.
Lead, supervise, and support team managers and staff, promoting professional development and a high-performance culture.
Develop and implement service improvement plans and quality assurance processes.
Work in close partnership with health, education, and voluntary sector partners to deliver integrated support for children and families.
Contribute to strategic planning and the development of disability services across the authority.
Prepare and present reports for senior management, OFSTED, elected members, and partnership boards as required.
Respond effectively to complaints, serious incidents, and audits, ensuring learning and service improvement.
Essential Requirements:
Qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration.
Substantial management experience within children's social care, particularly within disability or SEND services.
Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, and frameworks, including the Children Act, SEND Code of Practice, and safeguarding procedures.
Proven experience of leading and managing teams through change.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to manage complex cases, performance data, and budgets effectively.
What's On Offer: Start ASAP. A rate of between £400 – £450 per day for an initial 3 months. Hybrid working – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote working.
About The Client: The council is based in London.
