About the Role
We are currently seeking a Senior Support Worker to join a dedicated residential team supporting children and young people in a safe, nurturing, and homely environment.
In this role, you will take the lead on shifts, support and guide Residential Care Practitioners, and play a key part in delivering high-quality, child-centred care. You will work closely with the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager to ensure the home operates in line with legislation, policies, and best practice.
The young people you will support may have experienced trauma and present with social, emotional, or behavioural needs. Your role will be to help them develop life skills, build resilience, and achieve positive outcomes while feeling safe, valued, and heard.
This position requires flexibility to work on a rota basis, including sleep-ins, weekends, bank holidays, and occasional on-call duties.
About You
You will be a confident, compassionate, and experienced practitioner who can lead by example. You will have a strong understanding of children’s residential care and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
You will ideally have:
At least 1 year’s experience working as a Residential Care Practitioner
NVQ Level 3 in Children’s Residential Care or Level 4 in Children, Young People & Families (or willingness to work towards)
Strong leadership and communication skills
A good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and residential care legislation
The ability to build positive relationships with young people, colleagues, and professionals
Confidence in shift leading, delegation, and decision-making
A commitment to equality, diversity, and non-oppressive practice
You will be a positive role model, organised, reliable, and able to maintain professional standards both in and outside of work.
