Role:
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and clinically strong Ward Manager to provide leadership within a specialist neurological rehabilitation setting in York. You will lead the day-to-day clinical and operational delivery of care, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and person-centred rehabilitation for people with acquired brain injuries.
In this senior leadership role, you will act as a visible clinical leader and role model, ensuring evidence-based practice is embedded across the ward. You will oversee admissions and discharges, promote multidisciplinary collaboration, manage staffing and rostering, and ensure robust safeguarding, risk management and governance processes are in place. You will inspire, develop and support your team to deliver outstanding care that enables people we support to achieve their individual goals.
About You:
We are looking for a confident, motivated and values-led nursing leader who is:
• A qualified RMN or RNLD with current NMC registration
• Experienced in managing a ward or large multidisciplinary staff team within a complex care or rehabilitation setting
• Knowledgeable and experienced in working within the Mental Health Act
• Skilled in leading, motivating and developing staff to deliver high-quality, person-centred care
• Passionate about clinical excellence, evidence-based practice and continuous improvement
• A clear and effective communicator, able to engage with people we support, families, staff and multidisciplinary teams
• Committed to safeguarding, risk management and maintaining the highest standards of care
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide daily clinical and operational leadership for the ward, ensuring exceptional standards of care at all times
• Act as a positive clinical role model, promoting evidence-based practice and person-centred rehabilitation
• Oversee effective admission and discharge planning in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Establish systems to ensure effective communication and continuity of care
• Empower and enable staff to contribute to high-quality outcomes for people we support
• Promote a learning culture, reflective practice and continuous professional development
• Ensure robust risk management strategies and adherence to regulatory and clinical standards
• Lead on safeguarding, ensuring all concerns regarding harm, abuse or neglect are identified, reported and managed appropriately
• Manage staffing, including recruitment, retention, training, supervision, rostering, sickness and holiday cover
• Ensure the ward is consistently safe, well-led and appropriately staffed
Education and Qualification:
• RMN or RNLD nursing qualification — essential
• Mentorship in Practice (MIP) qualification or willingness to undertake — essential
